Relinguishment~The Sweet Release~

How many of you are familiar with the age-old Serenity prayer? I can probably say, that the vast majority of us either know it word for word, or are at least, familiar with it in some form . If I was to sum up the theme of that prayer it would be this” Relinquishment” it takes the stages of grief in this life, grief of any loss we may experience and puts it into new light.
What does relinquishment mean, to let go of there is no cookie cutter explanation, or definition of letting go of something that has such a firm grasp on our lives.  Such as chronic pain, chronic illness like IC or fibro. There is no 12-step layout. I picture relinquishment like this. Close your eyes and picture this with me. You’re standing in a lush green meadow full of wildflowers, that’s all the eyes can see for miles around. The Wind is blowing softly, gently through the trees, and then the rain starts to fall, slowly at first, with just small raindrops, and then the sky burst forth and the rain pours down. A cool calming refreshing rain that is so invigorating to feel upon your skin.
Your standing there, as the rain hits your face and rolls down your cheeks. You are soaking wet, but in that moment it doesn’t matter, its just so refreshing to feel that rain…. rain down on you,  you spread out your arms and you start to dance, as if you don’t have a care in the world! That to me is relinquishment.
So how do we let go and relinquish our illness? Think about this for just a moment. When you really reflect there are a lot of areas we need to come to the realization we cant control, it’s a act of trusting God, when we envision a positive outcome.
Does this mean we let it take over our lives, no not in any sense of the word? I know I have first hand struggled with this, its not a easy road by any means! At some point in this journey, we have to come to the realization we can’t fight, what we can’t control. We accept it, but we do not let it take over our emotions and our future! It does not dictate our worth, who we are as human beings! We do our best to grow and to learn from each step of the journey.
The seasons change, as fragile as our lives are, learning to find that sweet release.  There is a big difference in wanting to be proactive in our treatments, and trying to control our circumstances, they change as the seasons do. Stop holding so tightly to something we can’t control, relinquish that control over to the one who breathed life into your body, your brought you into being! Trust him to  help you release the hold this has on you! Ask God to give you that wisdom to know what we can change, and what is out of our control.
I want you to feel the rain on your face, to feel release from what holds you down. To know that there is more for you, we  just have to be open  and willing to be shown.
