People Ask is Remission Possible its not the same as Controlling Symptoms~
Good evening readers’ know that its been awhile since I wrote
here in my IC blog and I truly apologize for that. Between my own overall
health and going to my husband’s numerous doctor’s appointments for the weight loss surgery he will be having,
plus there was a death in the family things have been very hectic. But I have
not forgot about you all, so I’m BACK and I’m excited to be back.
The Issue that I want to discuss that ive seen a lot of
mention of it within the IC community is”Is Remission possible with IC” ive
seen so many divides within our family. I have seen friendships dissolve over
this, and it’s so sad. There is still so much, the medical community does not understand
about interstitial cystitis. There is still so much that we as the patients
still do not understand.
I view IC as a Evolving disease, its constantly changing, in
a lot of cases it progresses and gets worse over time. When I look at the IC
community I see my family, we deal with so much on a daily basis, that having
barriers and divisions amongst us does nothing to benefit us. I do my best to
uplift and encourage you all.
Were all on this journey, it may look different
for each of us, but instead of fighting over whose right, its really about
helping each other along, giving that arm to hold another up, when they are
ready to cave in. it’s about sharing ideas
with each other. a lot of times I get so much informative info from others that
I take what works for me and leave the rest.
you ask do I think
remission is possible. I have mixed feelings about this. We know as it stands,
there is no cure for IC.one of the most important things anyone diagnosed with
IC should learn is that IC affects every single person differently, what works
for one, may not work for another. Its not right to force our opinions on others.
It is important though for ALL of us to educate ourselves about this disease, don’t
wait for others to do the work for you. Be a voice, be a voice until your heard.
Use your voice for change.
IC cannot be cured right now, but that do not mean that one
day there will be a cure for us .Research is being done, but we need more, that
is why awareness is vital to the outcome.
It means we keep pressing forward. The more we learn about ourselves and
how ic affects us individually, the better our doctors can treat our symptoms.
What flares us, what foods trigger us?
There are times that a person can get their symptoms under
control, because I strongly believe that IC may be a Autoimmune disease. Just because
you control your symptoms, does not mean that the IC is in remission. One wrong
food, some kind of stress can set off your body into a another vicious cycle of
relentless pain and symptoms, I think we’re all working towards the goal of controlling
our symptoms the best we can, by diet, exercise, treatments, and stress management,
sadly that’s not enough always. Its not a answer that’s wrapped in a neat little
package, and that the end of it, its much deeper than that.
Sadly, that is not the story for all of us. I wish it were. So
when you ask me is it possible to go into remission its more that the symptoms lie
doormat in your body. I have heard of woman who were symptoms free for years
and then it knocks again and tears through with a vengeance. The best way we
can deal with IC is doing what we are doing, the best we can. We can learn from
one another in gentle ways, keep in mind your story may not look anything like
mine. Or vise versa.
I think its also important to take part of research studies
when given the opportunities, because this is a tangible way we can be part of
the change, the awareness, finding that cure. One day we will look back and a cure will be found,
until then. Keep learning and be gentle with each other, make the choice to do
your part of the change we need. Embrace each moment, when you’re not flaring
and live life to the fullest, the best you can, even if its only brief moments of your beautiful lives!
